Officials, residents survey damage after North Carolina community hit by deadly tornado

Residents and emergency officials alike surveyed the damage to trees, homes and other buildings on Tuesday in Brunswick County, N.C. after a deadly tornado ripped through parts of the region overnight. At least three people were killed and 10 were injured, with emergency officials estimating about 50 homes were impacted. Edward Conrow, director of the county’s emergency services, said Tuesday that a tornado warning from the National Weather Service (NWS) had been broadcast but at the time the storm was already on the ground causing damage. He said NWS officials said they were “very surprised“ at how rapid the storm intensified.
