Behind the Curtain Ep. 5 — Queen Elizabeth I

People argue about whether the George Stuart Historical Figures® are works of art, historical objects, or maybe something else entirely. Mr. Stuart himself objects to both the titles of Artist and Historian. “Behind the Curtain: An Insider’s Look at The George Stuart Historical Figures®“ offers visitors the opportunity to investigate each Figure closely so that they can decide for themselves. Queen Elizabeth I’s reign became known as England’s “Golden Age,” due in part to the major artistic works being produced at that time. Playwrights William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe and composers Thomas Tallis and William Byrd were all entertaining audiences during Elizabeth I’s reign. This current set of George Stuart Historical Figures® is on display thru February 5, 2023. Made possible in part by the Fred W. Smith Gallery Fund and additional support from Bethe and Tim Sullivan in memory of Rosemarie Magnes. Visit for information on upcoming exhibits, events and special programming.
