VIKINGS in Canada? L’anse aux Meadows National Historic Site | Tour and History | NFLD | Canada

In today’s video we are heading to very the top of Newfoundland’s western coast to an area called Saint Anthony (St. Anthony). It’s here you can find L’anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, a Parks Canada location. L’anse aux Meadows National Historic Site is the only known Viking settlement in North America. The Norse would come here from Greenland to fish and harvest timber. They began by setting up small camps, but after returning every year, they eventually set up a small settlement. You can now see the depressions in the ground of the first Viking homes here. Archeologists are still on site digging up artifacts and discovering new treasures. Parks Canada has turned L’anse aux Meadows into a living history museum with re-built homes and buildings depicting the life of the Viking nation here, while having period actors available to enhance the experience. If you are coming to Newfoundland, this is a must-see attraction! Learn more at
