Iran: Navy’s largest ship sinks in Gulf of Oman after fire on board

Subscribe to our channel! Smoke was seen emerging from the IRIS Kharg, one of the Iranian Navy’s largest vessels, as it sank in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday. The ship sank near the port of Jask on the same day as rescuers evacuated the ship’s crew onto a nearby beach, with 20 people reported to have injuries as a result of the incident. According to the authorities, efforts to save the ship failed after 20 hours of battling the fire. The Kharg, originally designed as a replenishment tanker of the Olwen class, has been in service of the Iranian Navy since 1984, having been built in the United Kingdom in the 1970s.
