Blues For Beginners - Benny Carter Live At Princeton: Vol. 3

Benny Carter assembled an all-star big band to play many of his classic compositions as part of this monumental concert recorded in 1973 at Princeton University. Carter established himself in the pantheon of American music in the early 1930s with the creation of a new, streamlined big band sound. It fit the Art Deco designs of the period - function and style and smoothness. Although his career as a big band leader had ended by the late 1940s, the full dimension of Carter’s musical personality found full expression when his music was played by a large choir of instruments. For this special concert, a band of illustrious Carter alumni was organized to recreate some of his well-known classics along with new interpretations of new music. It has to be heard to be believed.
