Trying to match oldskool colors of Terminator 2 with 4K BD | RGB histograms matching

Here is my another attempt to fix colors of 4K ITA HDR release of Terminator 2 by matching to preremaster version of it. Used AviSynth libplacebo_tonemap ColourLike for this. This is intermediate build, encoded by x265 at crf17 with pretty much maximum quality I was able to squeeze out of this method. I shifted Y and U channels prior initial tonemapping to SDR in 4 different ways, then tonemapped each separately, then ColourLike’d each separately, then combined all in one. The reason I’m doing this - ColourLike is old plugin and works only in 8bit colorspaces. So this way I was able to squeeze more colors and reduce banding / improve gradients. Details is subject of interest, cause it may be lost in process. So as You can see result sometimes hit color source pretty accurate, sometimes not. And the reason for that - I captured histograms out from entire movie, which makes matched colors catching behaviour of colors in different scenes. You may also notice that preremaster and remaster colors differs apart just from green tint and obvious brightness difference. Some scenes was completely ’repainted’. So end result is not same movie but rather something new. My next step in order to hit preremaster colors more accurately - is by cutting movie by scene and match histograms on by-scene basis. May take a while. Stay tuned.
