Unprecedented Threat - US Navy Slide Warns of China’s Naval Expansion

The Army Upgrade channel brings you up to date on defense developments in various countries. The Office of Naval Intelligence is sounding the alarm about the huge gap in U.S. and Chinese shipbuilding capacity and its implications. An alarming Navy slide warns of a 200-fold increase in China’s shipbuilding capacity, a mismatch between China’s and the U.S.’s ability to build new warships and the total size of the naval force. This underscores longstanding concerns about the U.S. Navy’s ability to challenge the Chinese navy, as well as keep its forces afloat in any future high-end conflict. Shipbuilding capacity in the U.S. had been declining since before the end of the Cold War, but has steadily declined even more since. It is now at a particularly low level across the board.
