The past simple tense - English grammar lesson. In this English lesson we learn how to create sentences in the past tense in English. We look at affirmative sentences, negatives sentences and questions in the past simple tense. 🌿 Affirmative Sentences – Past Simple Tense 🌿 First we compare present simple vs. past simple affirmative sentences Then we look: How to make a past tense verb? We give examples of adding -ED to the end of regular verbs and what to do when a verb already ends in E (like live, smile and dance) Next we give an introduction to the pronunciation of ED at the end of regular past tense verbs and how there are three main sounds /d/, /t/ and /id/. 🌿 Negative Sentences – Past Simple Tense 🌿 We compare present simple vs. past simple negative sentences and the difference between don’t / doesn’t vs. didn’t Then there is a simple exercise to practice making negative sentences in the past tense. 🌿 Questions – Past Simple Tense 🌿 We compare present simple vs. past simple questions and the difference between do / does vs. did. Then there is a simple exercise to practice making questions in the past tense. 🌿 Short Answers – Past Simple Tense 🌿 We quickly show how to give short answers in response to past tense questions. 🌿 More Question – Past Simple Tense 🌿 Next we look at using “question words” such as when, where, why, what, who, which etc. before DID. 🌿 Irregular Verbs – Past Simple Tense 🌿 We show you how to make affirmative and negatives sentences as well as questions in the past tense using IRREGULAR verbs. We use the verb TO GO (past tense = WENT) to give examples of how easy it is to create past tense sentences and question with irregular verbs.
