French President Macron Lied Claiming French Ambassador Is Being Held Hostage By Niger

On Friday, September 15, 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron made some alarming statements about the welfare of the French ambassador to Niger, Sylvain Itte, describing the diplomat as “being held hostage” by Nigerien authorities. While speaking to journalists on a visit to the Côte D’Or region in France that Friday, Macron said that “The French ambassador to Niger and other French diplomats are “literally being held hostage at the French embassy, and that “food was prevented from being delivered” to the embassy in Niamey. The ambassador, Sylvain Itte, “cannot go out, he is persona non grata and he is being refused food,” Macron also added. With these weighty statements, Macron painted a very grim picture of the situation of the diplomat, making it sound like Ambassador Sylvian Itte was being heavily mistreated by Niger’s military junta for no apparent reason than him being a French representative. However, it is clear that Macron lied to everyone by severely misrepresenting the facts of the case. What he conveniently failed to mention is that Niger’s military leaders told French ambassador Sylvain Itte he had to leave the country after they overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26. But a 48-hour ultimatum for him to leave, issued in August, passed with him still in place as the French government refused to comply, or to recognise the military government as legitimate. Essentially, Macron encouraged Sylvian Itte to remain in place despite the directive to evacuate and even though thousands of Nigeriens were demonstrating outside the French embassy daily, calling for the ambassador to simply leave the country as directed. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅SUPPORT US /AFFILIATE LINKS Use this affiliate link for your purchases at #MIZIZI International - Support our channel - PayPal: newafricachannel(at) Follow us on Instagram - Follow us on Twitter - Join us on Facebook - ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER The New Africa Channel doesn’t fully own some of the materials compiled in its videos.
