Something New, Trimming a Small, Altered, Pouring Vessels

Trimming a little one-off bowl, thrown and altered, the spout pulled and finally the vessel is left to sit overnight so it can turn leather hard. Before I turn it I pinch in the sides of the spout, just to redefine the shape as it can loosen overnight as the clay unwinds as it dries. I’ll do the same thing again after trimming too, just to make sure it’s the shape I want. Otherwise, I need precariously prop the bowl with lugs of clay and trim very carefully as of course, it doesn’t sit totally flat. As long as the foot-ring is trimmed flat though, the pot will sit nicely. I can’t say I’ll make many of this particular shape, more than anything this is a tiny test, as I want to see how well the form retains the applied shape. Altered pots aren’t something I’ve ever really explored and I don’t know how well it’ll work with my angular vessels, so this is just a very, very tentative start. #trimming #satisfying #bowl #pourer #handmade #craftsmanship #stoneware #artistmaker #designer
