The Art of Ornamentation according to Tartini

In this video we are introducing Tartini’s “The Art of Ornamentation“. For improvisation it’s useful to have certain stock patterns to ornament in certain styles. Tartini gives us an overview of basic ornaments and some larger patterns we can use on basic building blocks. In this video we are diving into the basic ornaments. Now don’t run away just yet! We think Tartini gives some interesting approaches to these basic ornaments, and also tells us a bit about their use in our improvisations (character, speed, options, etc.). Next week we will do a series around the larger patterns! 01:44 For whom? 02:03 Why look at this treatise? 03:07 Why ornament? 03:32 Appoggiaturas 03:54 Long Appoggiatura down 04:47 Short Appoggiatura down 05:23 Appoggiaturas going up 06:07 Trills 07:52 Vibrato 08:47 Mordent 09:37 Modes (Figures) 11:14 Trills (Addendum: upper or lower note?)
