Tornados hit Lee County, South-West Florida in the USA on January 16th 2022. Multiple tornadoes and waterspouts hit the area near Fort Myers and Naples Beach in the late morning. The strongest tornado was reported as measuring EF2, with winds approaching 120mph, and is the strongest to hit the area in 6 years. Dozens of buildings were destroyed by the tornados, with hundreds of people forced from their homes. Emergency shelters have been set up to help those affected. Traffic was affected by the high winds, with some vehicles being blown over, causing damage and blocking roads. Power lines were pulled down, with areas left without electricity for hours. The tornados were caused by a cold front moving through Florida, which also brought rain, hail and lightning to the state. Authorities are monitoring to ensure awareness of any further storms.
