Baltimore bridge collapse: search and rescue underway

A bridge in Baltimore has collapsed after a ship collided with it early on Tuesday, sending vehicles and people into the water and prompting the governor of Maryland to declare a state of emergency. READ MORE: Fire rescue teams and divers are searching the area for survivors amid fears of a large diesel spill and with water temperatures only slightly above freezing. At about local time a container ship hit one of the pillars of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing some 20 construction workers and three vehicles to fall into the water. A fire broke out aboard the ship, the 300m Singapore-flagged Dali, which was listing.
