One of the region’s greatest heroes is 22-time Tour stage winner André Darrigade. He was born in Narosse, a village nearby. From the Landes department, the riders cycle into the Gers department. But before they get there, they pass through the small town of Roquefort in the Landes. Not to be confused with Roquefort-sur-Soulzon, the cheese’s place of origin. Via Roquefort, the route then continues to Nogaro, but not in a straight line. Because a loop via Vic-Fezensac not only adds kilometres, but also a few metres in altitude. Shortly after Vic-Fezensac, the riders go around the Côte de Dému, a small climb that is only interesting for hill point collectors. In Nogaro it is the turn of the speed fanatics. The last 3 kilometres of the race take place - appropriately enough - on the Circuit Paul Armagnac. In the past, Alain Prost and Jean Alesi were successful there, but Eddy Merckx also won once on this track. In 1974, he was the best at the Critérium des Ashes. Not so long ago, it was Tom Scully who won there.
