LA VIE PLATINÉE is a 1987 film from Cote d’Ivoire by Claude Cadiou... Mamady Keita played a character named “Kawa.“ Though not a major element of the overall plot, his role nevertheless was crucial to the film: Mamady performed as lead drummer for the KOTEBA ensemble of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Indeed, the complete 82-minute film dramatized that group’s invitation to Paris, and their subsequent struggles to raise (successfully!) the necessary travel funds... I have uploaded each of the ensemble’s 3 appearances separately, as well as this longer sequence that combines all three with excerpts of the opening credits, of the group’s bus travel, and of their ultimate departure for Paris.
