Beth Chatto was 93 years old in June 2016 and she has transformed this garden since 1960 from an overgrown wasteland with poor gravel soil and boggy hollows to what it is today. Her planting schemes have influenced garden design for over 30 Years. The Gravel Garden was made to show what could be grown in dry conditions.
