I hope everyone has time to wind down and end the year on a good note~ I can’t believe we’re done with the year.. This MV was my big project of the year, after 6 intensive months of work we’re so proud to share our take on this earworm of a song! I honestly wasn’t thinking of covering this song since it’s quite out of my comfort zone, but I got a spark of inspiration to make a trio version representing the Hoshino family.. and here we are.. with one big snowball of a project LOL. Biggest thanks to the ones who helped bring this project to life: Anton and Seraph for their beautiful voices, esther and Kurono for their flawless audio work and making us sound so good, and Ship’s fun harmony guides! I can’t appreciate Anton enough for working together with me on the animation, sharing all the animation tricks up his sleeves and creating such stunning scenes!! More details of the project’s bts during the livestreams (*plugs* my twitter/twitch for updates), but this was definitely my most ambitious project yet! A lot of experimentation went into the visuals, with trying various styles of live2D animated artworks, spicing up a few of them with frame-by-frame animated components, and pulling it altogether within AE along with the 3D scenes Anton created. Quite amazed that things came together smoothly in the end once the workflow made sense. Anton’s work on such a large chunk of the video made it much easier for me to focus on experimenting with the live2d scenes, it was a great pleasure to animate with him! The storyboard is my tribute to the anime - Oshi No Ko, a one-of-a-kind story depicting the dark, ugly side of the entertainment industry. YOASOBI did an astounding job depicting the stark contrast - idols taking to the stage with bright smiles plastered across their faces a sight of perfection (through the upbeat music and melodies), while dealing with ugly hurtful words, crazed fans, and the pressure of often putting up a fake front to please the crowd (through the lyrics). I hope to portray this with my own version of illustrations and animation, showcasing both our original characters as well as some events and scenes that unfolded in the first season. Overall it was (more than a little overworked but) a whole lot of fun and a proud glow up from my previous MV so woohoo!
