Ever since, each and every pianist who tackles or has tackled the work has or has had to contend with memories and the magnitude of the devastation. Most, and I mean the very vast majority of them, have simply ended and still end up dropping off the radar. Let it also be said that Argerich’s genius would mean little if she had not met her match in Chailly and his players. That evening, the stars for sure became aligned.
