Number Line of Square Twists in Origami Tessellations

Part of the designer mindset is to see the potential for different choices. In this mindset, a square isn’t just a specific square - it’s the potential for any square interaction! There are many more options than closed and open, front and back, and it turns out that we can treat these options as a number line. We move along the number line by shifting a two pleats one grid spacing each for each step along the line and in many tessellations we have a free choice of which twist to use in a given location.
