Debussy - Images I/II • Estampes • L’île Joyeuse - Yuji Takahashi (高橋悠治)

The first recording of Debussy’s “Images“ that i have ever listened to, was a live recording by Friedrich Gulda a few years ago. (Munich, 1981) Shortly before leaving the Disk Union Store in Kichijōji two weeks ago, one of the staff members put on this CD - I immediately went to the counter and asked for the album. It was recorded in 1975 and features an absolutely beautiful rendition of Et La Lune Descend Sur Le Temple Qui Fut - (そして月は廃寺に落ちる) - one of my favorite composition by . Yuji, the brother of Aki Takahashi, studied with Iannis Xenakis and recorded more than a hundred albums during his career - hopefully i will find more of his and Aki Takahashi’s recordings in the next 6 months. I also bought a lot of string-quartets that day, most of it is already on YouTube though // well-known. Images 1ère Série (映像 •第1集) 0:00 - Reflets Dans L’eau
