SCRIPT WRITER Matt Damon originally started writing the film as a final assignment for a playwriting class he was taking at Harvard University. Instead of writing a one-act play, Damon submitted a 40-page script. He then came to Ben Affleck and asked him to develop the screenplay together, which they soon completed, then the ambitious men negotiated a lucrative sale of film script to Castle Rock Ent. who perceptively purchased the script from Matt Damon for US$775,000; including an agreement that Damon and Affleck retained the sole writing credits.
