Visit Shanghai’s underwater Quarry Hotel: 88 Meters Deep built on a quarry

Hello! Today, I’ll take you on a tour of a unique hotel located in Shanghai, built on an abandoned quarry. With the increasing demand for stone due to urban development and economic growth, decades of quarrying formed a pit with a depth of nearly 90 meters and a perimeter of over a kilometer by the late 1970s. As the need for environmental improvement grew, people began to seek ways to transform this abandoned quarry into a place of lush greenery and clear waters. Restoring the ecology of a pit with an 80-meter depth is undoubtedly an extremely complex and colossal undertaking, involving various architectural challenges such as fire safety, waterproofing, and seismic resistance. Eventually, a team of British designers was enlisted to design and construct the hotel, which was once selected as one of the world’s top ten architectural wonders. In this video, I’ll take you through this breathtaking place from a first-person perspective to show you what it has to offer. 00:47 Video Preview 01:15 Cliff Glass Skywalk 04:32 Observation Deck 08:51 Hotel Lobby 10:30 Hotel’s Subterranean Aquarium on the Lower Levels 11:41 Taking the Elevator to the Depths of the Quarry 14:51 Exploring the Underground Quarry Hotel 21:12 Hotel Observation Platform 23:37 Night Views
