After spending nearly 7 years trapped in Ecuador’s London based embassy, followed by 1,901 days in Belmarsh prison, Julian Assange is free
Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, heads back to his home country of Australia following agreeing to a plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice. The 14-year-long legal battle seems to have finally concluded with Assange agreeing to plead guilty to a felony charge under the Espionage Act of “conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified information relating to the national defense of the United States”. The charge usually carries a 62 month jail sentence, yet it was agreed that his time spent in Belmarsh maximum security prison would be considered time served.
