1975 - SALÒ, or the 120 Days of Sodom

Music: 6 by Marcel Pequel If you’re looking for an editor, visit me at First of all: Sorry. Second of all: I take back my apology. The discourse around Salo is very strange to me. This movie has become almost a dare. Or, weirdly, a meme? It shouldn’t be, though. It’s not a faces of death, or a serbian film, or whatever else. It’s powerful. It disgusts and upsets and terrorizes the viewer with the mundanity of the evil portrayed. It’s a bummer! It is certainly not a pleasant watch (pretty sure that wasn’t the intent) but nor is it devoid of artistry. And, god, if ever a film achieved its goal it has to be this one, right? Movies aren’t obligated to provide enjoyment. Sometimes they eviscerate you.
