The US has confirmed that it will be sending a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) air defence system to Israel to help the country fend off attacks. It is a highly accurate anti-missile system produced by the US firm Lockheed Martin, designed to counter incoming ballistic missiles and can track targets up to 1,900 miles away.
