Drag Racing (1967)

Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Several shots of drivers preparing themselves and their dragsters (cars) for a race at the Santa Pod raceway; men tinkering with engines; attaching parachutes to the back of the vehicles. The dragsters are wheeled to the starting point as commentator tells us “the American Commando Drag Racing team prepare to blast off for a jet-speed duel with British dragsters“. A man gets into a silver racing suit with futuristic helmet; nice C/U of two Americans (?), one drinks from a can of Budweiser beer (?). Several shots of the elongated dragsters being pushed to the starting point by cars, then speeding along the tracks under their own power; the parachutes fly out from the rear to slow them down.
