Adagio in C Major for Glass harmonica {Musical glasses}, {was 356}, performed by Dale Carr on the organ in the Hervormde Kerk in Kantens {province of Groningen}, 3 November, 1989. The adagio was composed in 1791, the last year of Mozart’s life, for Marianne Kirchgeßner, a famous performer of the time on the glass harmonica. The instrument consists of a set of wine glasses filled to varying degrees with water; the tones are produced when the player rubs the rims of the glasses with her/his fingers, producing an other-worldly sound. The organ in the Antoniuskerk in Kantens was built around 1660 {the hoofdwerk} by Johannes Huys and enlarged {rugpositief} around 1668 by his brother Johannes. At the time of this recording only the hoofdwerk had been restored: in 1986 by Jürgen Ahrend with Cor Edskes as consultant.
