China: FM backs Taliban request to unfreeze assets in Afghanistan

China’s Foreign Ministry backs the Taliban’s demand to unfreeze assets in Afghanistan, according to spokesperson Zhao Lijian at Wednesday’s Beijing press conference. “The US should face up to the legitimate demand of Afghanistan, abandon pressures and sanctions, and stop creating obstacles to the economy, livelihood and peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan,“ Zhao stated. The spokesperson accused the US of committing “grave human rights crimes overseas,“ including using ’fake evidence’ as reasons to go to war, citing Iraq and Syria.
