Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter dies at 96

Former first lady Rosalynn Carter passed away at the age of 96 on Nov. 19, 2023 in her home in Plains, Ga. Carter devoted her life as a champion of mental health care and caregiving. She was married to her husband, former president Jimmy Carter for 77 years and was first lady from 1977 to 1981. She was the second-oldest first lady in U.S. history behind Bess Truman. Jimmy Carter credits his wife for being his trusted adviser during his presidency. She was even invited to Cabinet meetings — something that was rarely done before for the president’s spouse.
