NMSP officer Darian Jarrott pulled over a white Chevy pickup on interstate 10 near mile marker 101 as a part of a homeland security investigation. The driver, Omar Felix Cueva was under investigation by HSI for drug trafficking. HSI asked Darianโ€™s Sargent if there would be available units to assist them with pulling over Cueva on I-10 if the opportunity came. Darianโ€™s Sargent said there would be available units to assist on the 4th. Jarrotts Sargent spoke with him about looking for a white Chevy pickup and if he saw it, to initiate a traffic stop but only if Jarrott created his own probable cause to stop Cueva and do a search of his vehicle. During the traffic stop Cueva fired at least 1 shot at officer Jarrott. Officer Jarrott was struck and killed by gunfire. A persuit was initiated not long after. Multiple agencies chased Cueva for nearly 40 miles. A Las Cruces police officer successfully utilized a Persuit Intervention Technique (PIT). Cueva fired at Officers, Officers fired back, fatally wounding him. At the time of this video being posted, authorities have arraigned Cuevaโ€™s wife on a two-count indictment charging her for lying on a background check to a licensed firearm dealer along with knowingly giving a convicted felon ammunition and firearm.
