The Australian Army Tank Museum at Puckapunyal, Victoria holds a collection of armored vehicles of interest to the School of Armour which trains personnel at this operational military base. This footage was shot on Sunday 30-Oct-2022 and is of the US M4 Medium Tank (Sherman). 49,234 Shermans were produced of all types. This variant featured the composite hull that is of cast form at the front and welded form at the rear, and is fitted with the 75mm gun and twin side by side I6 diesels. This example is fitted with the 75mm medium velocity M3 gun of 40 calibres. It can be considered dual purpose as it also had an effective HE round for non-armoured targets. Its AP rounds M72 and M61 were effective against mid war German tanks, but the gun was outperformed by later war German guns, such as the L/48, the M3 having much less kinetic energy due to lower muzzle velocities.
