C/U of speedway rider’s knees, wearing thick rubber pads. M/S as the tapes go up and speedway riders start off; camera pans as they speed round an ice-covered track. Several shots of riders zooming around the track in the race. General view of large crowd watching the race. More bikes are lined up at the start of another heat. The tapes go up and the bikes shoot forward. Camera pans as No. 14, the Soviet champion, Kadyrow, goes into the lead. C/U as No. 12 flashes past and is overtaken by No. 13. M/S as two more bikes flash past camera. L/S as two bikes crash on other side of track. Two cyclists round bend; camera pans with one of them as he goes into a skid and crashes on other side of track. More cyclists come round the bend.
