Eleven French departments issued a storm warning on Wednesday after severe weather hit the cities of Nîmes and Montpellier, bringing six weeks of rain in just two hours. One restaurant owner said: “Once it rains hard enough, the water flows in front of the restaurant before rising and causing flooding.“ Forecaster Meteo France warned of “persistent downpours“ in the south, with further thunderstorms threatening “significant electrical activity“ in all 11 departments later on Wednesday.
