HORSEPOWER and OLD ORDER AMISH Filling Silo Using New Holland 718 Chopper in Lancaster County, PA

With 2 teams of horses these Amish farmers are continuing to open the corn fields for the main harvest. The chopped corn will be blown into the silo to ferment to make silage to feed the dairy cows through the winter months. Using a New Holland Model 718 corn chopper fitted with a kernel processor to crush the kernels for increased nutritional uptake, this method of chopping the corn is an advancement from the more traditional corn binder and chopper at the silo method. This method requires less men for labor and increases safety for those involved.
