Report from Tohoku 2021(東北からのメッセージ2021) The day after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake (), Japan Society in New York established the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund (JERF), raising over $14.1 million (1.4 billion yen) from over 24,600 donors from 50 states and 55 countries. The fund has not only helped provide emergency relief assistance, but also supported mid- to long-term reconstruction efforts in the disaster-hit region, assisting more than 45 organizations and 65 projects. With the support of JERF, Japanese non-profit ETIC. has nurtured over 250 emerging talent to support leaders in Tohoku in their recovery efforts through the “Right Arm” program. In 2021, 10 years after , Japan Society and ETIC. visited the recipients of JERF support including the participants of the “Right Arm” program to collect their testimonies regarding the impact of the support and their current situation, and their hope for the future.
