Russians celebrate Slavic Literacy and Culture Day on 24th May. Russian is written in the Cyrillic script. Cyrillic is the basis of alphabets used in various languages. Predominantly in Southeastern Europe, as well as in Northern Eurasia, especially those of Slavic origin. Nevertheless, many non-Slavic languages influenced by Russian, use it too. More than 250 million people in Eurasia use it as the official alphabet for their national languages. We met Njegos Manojlovic, Associate Professor at the Institute of Slavic Culture of the Kosygin State University of Russia in Moscow in order to find more about the present status and perspectives in the usage of Cyrillic amongst Slavs.
