Slow Motion study of Bravo Fan Dilliwine’s piaffe in cross tie pillars

This video shows Bravo Fan Dilliwine’s, a 7 year old Friesian gelding schooling piaffe in a cross tie pillar. Bravo began his piaffe schooling under saddle, up out of counted walk. When good half steps came easy I began training forward moving steps in hand along the wall of the arena. When the in hand work could produce short sequences of piaffe with no forward movement I began the “pillars“ training shown here. It is interesting to note that I frequently train these processes in other way around, beginning in the pillar, moving to in hand, and then under saddle. With each horse careful observation will tell you which of these processes to begin with. This video, without tack, offers a lovely study of joint and muscle use in piaffe. I hope that you enjoy this!
