“A Church, a Courtroom, Then Goodbye“ by Patsy Cline was composed by Eddie Miller and W.S. Stevenson (a pen name for Bill McCall). It was released as Cline’s debut single in July 1955 via Coral Records. It was recorded on June 1, 1955 at producer Owen Bradley’s Studio with Paul Cohen producing, Harold Bradley on guitar, Grady Martin on electric guitar and fiddle, Bobby Garrett pedal steel string, Tommy Jackson fiddle, Owen Bradley on piano, Bob Moore on bass, and Farris Coursey on drums. It was Cline’s third recording session in her career. She cut several additional sides during the same session, including “Turn the Cards Slowly,“ “Hidin’ Out,“ and “Honky Tonk Merry Go Round.“ Patsy Cline appeared at Nashville’s Centennial Park and performed it for a crowd estimated at fifteen thousand, and at the Grand Ole Opry on June 16, 1956.
