Shootfighter - Hawk vs Ruben

Penultimate fight scene from the 1992 film “Shootfighter“. What intrigues me about this fight over the others in the film is that the character of Hawk (played by the actor known only as “Thunderwolf“) seems to show genuine emotion at his potential impending death. His facial expressions as he faces off with Ruben seem to say “Look dude, the truth is I have nothing against you, but in a few minutes one of us is going to have to kill the other. I don’t want to kill you, but I don’t want you to kill me even more, so, you know...“ Normally in martial arts films like this, the “bad guy“ fighters that the protagonists defeat are just generic meatheads, violent thugs with no personality. But somehow Thunderwolf makes his character seem much more human than that. There’s real fear as Ruben holds the sword to his throat.
