Roy Ayers - Sugar (The Reflex Revision)

Available Originally unearthed and released by BBE as part of the Virgin Ubiquity (Unreleased Recordings 1976-1981) project, ’Sugar’ is a smooth funk/disco gem recorded in 1978, which features vocals from Carla Vaughan as well as Roy Ayers himself. Joey Negro’s iconic 2004 club mix brought the track to a wider audience and became the soundtrack to that year’s Winter Music Conference, which rocketed it directly onto dance-floors the world over. Fast forward 12 years and a relatively new name on the scene, French edit maestro The Reflex has put together his own special take on the song, using only the original parts. Counting Nile Rogers & Kid Creole among many fans of his work, The Reflex specialises in crafting subtly produced reworks, exclusively using elements taken from the original versions. ’The Reflex Revision’ of ’Sugar’ is light and elegant, letting each part breathe on its own whilst making the most of the potent percussion and horn sections. Created with DJs in mind and with summer on the way, we might just have yet another pool party classic on our hands. An instrumental version is also included, which further showcases those incredible original parts and creates a real dance floor-friendly groove. Relive last 20 years Join the BBE Mailing List: || ||
