Counter This Frustrating Escape: Transition from Back Control into Lat Juji (No Gi BJJ)
In BJJ, there’s nothing more frustrating than working hard to secure a solid attack position on the back, only to lose it and find yourself back at square one in the closed guard. This sort of escape happens frequently with a partner who understands proper hand position and back defense.
Our answer is twofold - first, to slow the escape down and second, to anticipate where they will end up once the escape is complete. While you can’t always prevent a good escape, you can be prepared to counter with your own attack. In this case, we use an overlook to set up one of the strongest armlocks around - the lat juji.
