This film puts me in mind of an early British film called The Miller and the Sweep, made in 1897 where a miller and a sweep fight it out, covering each other with flour and soot. I wonder if there is a link to this annual tradition, a Bakers v Sweeps football match on Boxing Day. One of the sporting events over the holiday began with a procession at Waltham Cross and a collection for an Old Peoples’ Charity. It was the prelude to a slapstick football match between the Bakers and the Sweeps, which has been held for over a half a century. MS poster on the back of person “Baker V Sweeps“.
