Timothy Snyder briefs The United Nations Security Council on “russophobia“

Timothy Snyder, Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, briefs The United Nations Security Council on 14 March 2023 for a session called by the Russian Federation to discuss “russophobia.“ “Claiming to be the victim when you are in fact the aggressor is not a defense. It is actually part of the crime. Hate speech directed against Ukrainians is not part of the defense of the Russian Federation or its citizens. It is an element of the crimes that Russian citizens are committing on Ukrainian territory. In this sense, in calling this session, the Russian state has found a new way to confess to war crimes.
