1953 HITS ARCHIVE: Caravan - Ralph Marterie

Caravan (Ellington-Tizol-Mills) by Ralph Marterie and his “Down Beat” Orchestra Though this famous big band revival of the 1937 Ellington standard sold over a million copies, much of the credit should go to the group The Esquire Boys, whose distinctive arrangement of “Caravan” on the small Rainbow label was ‘borrowed’ by Marterie. THE 1953 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1953 (some were recorded in 1952).
