Yemen hit by major airstrikes from UK and US missiles

Explosions were heard across Yemen late on Thursday night as British and US forces launched strikes on Houthi targets, after the Iranian-backed group ignored warnings to stop attacking ships in the Red Sea. The Houthis have carried out a growing number of attacks on what they deem to be Israel-linked shipping in the key international trade route since Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7. Rishi Sunak, who briefed ministers in an emergency cabinet meeeting last night, said the strikes were “limited, necessary and proportionate action in self-defence”. President Biden said a number of Western allies have provided backing.
