The Tree of Life - Lacrimosa

Scene from the film “The Tree of Life“, written and directed by Terrence Malick. It represents the origins of the universe. The Tree of Life premiered in competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d’Or. Many critics and scholars have declared the film a masterpiece: in the 2012 Sight & Sound critics’ poll, 16 critics, including the renowned Roger Ebert, voted it one of the ten greatest films of all time; this placed it at #102 in the final list and in 2015, the BBC listed it one of the 100 greatest American films ever made. The music was composed by the Polish film score composer, Zbigniew Preisner, best known for his work with film director Krzysztof Kieślowski. In 1998, “Requiem for My Friend“, Preisner’s first large scale work not written for film, premiered.
