Greg Wells “June Jump“, performed in June 2013 at Rocket Carousel Studio in Culver City, CA “Back in June 2013, I had an artist cancel an hour before our writing session. I had nothing else to do that day, and no engineer booked, but all my instruments were ready to record. I thought today was the day to try a crazy idea I’d been kicking around for years. Warts and all, this is one take on piano to a click track, immediately followed by one take on the drums, one take on the bass, lunch, then one take with a couple of fixes on the guitar because post-lunch I’d forgotten some of what happened that morning. I had always wanted to try this as an experiment, and may do it again the next time someone cancels last minute! I filmed each take on an old iPhone propped up one whatever was available, then brilliantly lost all the footage for years. I found the clips again recently when going through some old computers I was about to recycle. I don’t really know how to
