Market Place Derby (1956)

Siena, Italy. GV. Massed crowd, pan across showing course and crowds. Some horses on the track. Crowds all in the centre. SV. Crowd behind barrier and a puff of smoke goes up as the gun is fired to start the “Palio di Siena“ race. SV. Horses dancing behind the tape. The tape is dropped and horses start to gallop off, pan with them as they go away. LV. As the horses come round bend and into the straight with a grey leading the field. Horses come towards camera and the Porcupine goes very fast into bend followed by others. Horses go away into distance and round another bend with Porcupine still being pressed. LV. The horses coming towards, Porcupine still leading. LV. Towards, Porcupine still in front, horses take a bend very fast. Porcupine still leads and they go towards another bend round. LV. Porcupine leads down the straight, people run on to the track. LV. Porcupine wins, this is the end of the race. SV. Men on the track pushing and shoving each other. LV.
