Istanbul or Constantinople ? Istanbul since 1453 ? The truth is that Constantinople was never renamed officialy by the Ottomans in 1453 and was reffered as Kostantiniyye قسطنطينيه by the Ottomans which is actually the Arabic version of Constantinople. Eventually that city was renamed to Istanbul in 1930 by Kemal Ataturk.
