Saving Private Ryan | Wade’s Monologue

One of the most profound scenes in any film ever, courtesy of Giovani Ribisi! I noticed that this scene wasn’t anywhere on YouTube so wanted to upload it, hopefully it doesn’t get taken down. Context: It’s France, 1944 - the group of US soldiers have been sent on a mission to locate Private Ryan and have him sent back to the US after his three brothers were killed in the war. After already losing Caparzo (Vin Diesel), the soldiers have holed up in a church for the night and are talking about home. The reason why I find this scene so poignant and sad is the way Wade (Ribisi) talks about his regret for the small things he did to his mum - pretending to be asleep when she came home. This takes on deeper meaning when you realise that Wade is probably worried that he will be killed soon and might never see his mother again. Later on in the film, Wade is hit in the stomach and as he dies he calls out for his mother. Sad, but amazing film and if you haven’t seen it you definitely should!
